Charles Anthony Bonilla, 20, was arrested Thursday, Nov. 14, arrested and charged with the shooting death of Richard McDonald that occurred in Green Homes, in Bridgeport, on July 4, said Terron Jones, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police Department.
Bonilla is alleged to have shot McDonald in the head near the rear of building 4 in Green Homes and fled the scene, Jones said.
The Homicide Unit was able to quickly develop Bonilla as the suspected shooter, and through diligent investigation, Det. Martin Heanue was able to secure a warrant for Bonilla's arrest, Capt. Brian Fitzgerald said.
Bonilla was charged with murder, carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a weapon, use of a firearm n the commission of a felony.
At the time of his arrest for murder, Bonilla was free on bond for a July 9 arrest in which he was arrested and pleaded guilty to possession of narcotics with intent to sell. He was awaiting sentencing.
He was also arrested again on Sept. 5, and charged with stealing a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.
Bonilla is currently in the custody of the Department of Corrections awaiting trial for on the firearms charge. His new bond has been set at $2 million for the murder charge.
